Soccer-Frightening pace was too much for Chelsea, says Pardew

By Tom Hayward LONDON, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Crystal Palaces "frightening" pace was too much for London rivals Chelsea, said manager Alan Pardew after the Premier League champions slumped to a shock 2-1 home defeat on Saturday. The visitors had to soak up wave after wave of pressure but ruthlessly exposed Chelsea on the counter-attack as they inflicted Jose Mourinhos second home defeat in his 100th league game at Stamford Bridge. "We can frighten teams with our pace and we did that from start to finish," Pardew told the BBC after his side triumphed with second-half goals from Bakary Sako and Joel Ward. ~ 19:02 Yahoo

Soccer-Goal-shy Arsenal continue to stutter

Touted by many as title challengers before the season Arsenal have failed to set the Premier League alight and it is their goal-shy attack rather than defensive vulnerability which has highlighted their underwhelming start this campaign. Arsenal laboured to an unimpressive 1-0 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday and only had a Fabricio Coloccini own-goal to show for their endeavors despite racking up 21 efforts on goal. Despite their array of dazzling attacking talent only Olivier Giroud has netted in four matches this season -- along with two own-goals in victories over Crystal Palace and Newcastle. ~ 15:59 Yahoo

LONDON, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Arsenal laboured to their second win of the season with a highly-charged 1-0 victory against 10-man Newcastle United at St James Park on Saturday.
